Places to stay in DC?

Going to DC the end of June to sight see all the monuments, Smithsonian, Arlington etc. What is a good hotel to stay at that is CLEAN, nice and relatively inexpensive - I'm a hotel snob so it has to be CLEAN and nicely furnished.
