How do I create a regulated alternating magnetic field in a solenoid?

For example if I want an alternating magentic field of lets say 200 Gauss, by supplying AC voltage, how would I design a coil (number of coils)? How can I calcualte the current flowing through the solenoid? Would it simply be I=V/Z where Z=wL (w-frequency,L-inductance)?
