When will the US stop pretending everything is about a fight of Good vs Evil and admit they do what they want?

The US is a so called secular state but trot out the word "Evil" when it suits them but make praying in school unlawful. Instead of pretending things they do are all for the common good and defend atrocities like waterboarding, detention without trial are OK and just say, well, because we can - so there - and be done with it.
