What was the main point George Orwell was trying to illustrate in "Animal Farm"?

I just finished reading...and the end was the most bizarre. I felt he was definitely mocking religious systems as well as communism, oligarchies, socialism and exposed some of the techniques used to impose thought control (one being double-think) onto others less able to reason. Any thoughts anyone?
