I am on Implanon, and it causing frequent protracted menstruation, what can I take to stop?
I, too, had an IUD. Before having the IUD placed my periods were very light and short. After getting my IUD put in I had the most horrible periods. They were heavy and they lasted twice as long as they did previously. The thing is there are two differenty types of IUDs. There is the mirena, which has hormones that can eventually stop your period, and there is the paragaurd, which has no hormones and is strictly a barrier method birth control. I had the paragaurd and it was horrible! The best advice I can give you is to buy a heating pad and keep it on stand-by because you will need it. The cramps really do not subside and I am sorry to have to tell you that. I dealt with mine for three years until I was rushed to the hospital with the most TERRIBLE cramps I have ever had. Turned out I developed a pelvic infection, which is a side effect of the IUD. I wish you luck better than mine!
